August 2010 addition(s)

The first horse on this page, Ropers Nova, formerly known as Spud, was discovered many years ago when his owner was trying to find out whether he was champagne, because he tested as a single cream when he looked like a double, as a foal.  At that time, Carolyn Shepard determined that he was not champagne.

Years later he was tested for champagne, and then for pearl, and those tests came back negative.  Until August of 2010 he was the only widely-known, completely unexplained new dilution.

In August of 2010 a visitor to my HorseColors.us web sent me pictures of and a query about her stallion, Sunshine.

Sunshine also tested (twice) as a regular buckskin, but also looks much like a perlino.

It's about time that Ropers Nova had a web page of his own here, and Sunshine was just the catalyst needed to get that going.  So, here are links to my pages about those two horses, and what is known about them.

The newdilutions Yahoogroup/list was originally created for recognized color researchers and owners/breeders of horses of new dilutions only.  However, it is now open to anyone with a serious interest in horse colors.  The archives alone are nearly priceless... feel free to join us to have access to the list's history, and photo albums =>
